AWW Shoot!!!!!!!!!!
I got the 081 heads for my 305 already fully machined, magnafluxed, larger 194 intakes valves, springs, etc.
I then ported and polished my set of heads, they turned out great!
I then thought, why don't I put in screw in rocker studs, this way I don't have to worry about the possibility of them backing out. So I followed the directions in my HELMS manual and 6 came out easily on the first head. The 7th got about 1/2 way and then the nut on the stud stripped so I stopped and did the 8th to get it out of the way. Then I went back to the 7th and re threaded it down a bit lower, because I ran out of good thead and so I could have a better "bite" for the new nut to get the stud out.
The stud came out. When I removed the adapter I saw that it had cracked the boss in three places about 1/2 down. Awww Shoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took it to a machine shop and they recomended against using the head. So now I am back to square 1. Out $400. What a bummer.
A buddy of mine said I could have his heads a set of s/r torquer 305's. So this is the route I think I will go.
Do you think there is any type of market for one remaned ported and polished head with all new stuff on it and new valves, springs, etc for another head?
