lot of engine questions for you

hey,i have lot of questions about the roller engine:

what do i need to install a flattapped hidraulic cam on a roller engine,is this a simple swap,or it canīt be done?

what do i need to do to install a weiand stealth(dual plane)on an l98 engine?

how do in know if i have an l98?

how much power can i take out of an l98 with carb and without adding a forced induction or heads?

anyhelp is valuable,thanks a lot.

Paul.

It is a simple swap. It's a real shame to downgrade an engine that way though, considering how easy it is to get certain roller cams (like ZZ4 take-outs) cheap.

Some gaskets and some bolts. Beyond that, in order to get it to run right, you'll need a 3-port fuel regulator, to knock the fuel pressure down from 45 or so to about 5 psi; a non-computer-controlled distributor; and a carb.

If it's a 350 TPI, and it came that way, it's a L98. Look at your VIN; if the 8th digit is 8, then the car came with a L98.

Without touching the heads, about 330-340 HP is all. That's only about 100 more than it does now.

RB83L69 has it all figured out.

One more thing tho. Make sure the intake fits 86-up centerbolt heads. That's what comes stock on an L98

You'll also need longer pushrods. Since the stock roller lifters are taller than flat tappets, the pushrods are shorter.

You'll also need a new (read different style) timing chain set. The stock roller cam has a smaller diameter bolt pattern. You'll need the larger pattern for a flat tappet cam.

You mean 87 and up. The 86 came with perimeter style valve cover bolt patterns and standard intake bolt patterns. He doesn't have an 86 because the 86 wasn't offered with a roller cam either.
