Possible New IROC!!

I have been looking for my first third gen for quite a while now. I think I might have found one I like.

It's an 89 IROC 350 Auto 49k miles, dark red metallic. He's asking $6000. It seems to be a good price for the low milage. It has audio upgrades, a hyp. chip, and a flowmaster. He said the only problem was it puts out a little white smoke when you first start it? He said it was becasue the hyp. chip advances the timing and it causes that?

If he would have said blue smoke I would have thought the valve guides were wearing, but white? Head gasket or normal?

What do you guys think of the price?

Thanks,
JOSH

ask him if you can put down say a, $500 deposit and take it to a trusted mechanic. it will be well worth the time and money, if you plan to buy it. i would guess that the white smoke is not from timing, but what do i know. im only 19. 6k is a little high for an iroc, but it has very low mileage. my advice is the depsosit idea then go from there.

not a bad deal. I dont see how a timing advance would cause the smoke though. Sometimes you have to look really hard for the blueish tinge. If it only smokes at startup, my first thought is always valve seals. Iwould definitely check those out.

I have a similar problem and Im pretty sure its valve seals, but mine has 100+ on the engine if this one has been sitting a long time (which it sounds like) most likley just bad seals. easy fix if you have some basic knowledge of repairs, but if you tear it all apart might as well start upgrading!!! hahaha I spent about 2000 for a 89 IROC that had been wrecked bad so all I got out was the engine/trans so if yours is in real good shape might not be a bad deal but would definately try to talk him down. Good luck

6K is too high. I would offer like $5500 at most. I got a ,and I understand it is less motor, 89 305 tpi 5 speed with 47,000 miles and nothing wrong with it for only $5300. I had K&n kyb gas shocks and struts, brand new tires and tune up to it and I thought that was a damn good deal. Oh weel good luck with it and I hope you get it.

6K is an okay price. As long as you can do the fix for cheap. But hell it's an IROC which is the fastest and best handling car out of the 3rd gen Camaro's. So I would buy it. Unless you can find a RS and convert it into an IROC.

$6K isnt bad you can always talk him down...and the white smoke is probably the guide seals...i had that problem on my 89 T/A...i can't see the timing causing that.....but do what someone else said.....take it to a mechanic.....see what they say.....good luck!

Somehow I doubt he still has it, or that the miles are still that low. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
