HELP! My Idle Is @1600 RPM, What Happened?
Today I hosed off my engine after I let it cool a bit. I got in my car drove about 60 miles and then at a stop light noticed my idle speed was 1200, so I though OK, WTF?? Then at the next light it was at 1600, WTF?? Finally, when I pulled into the Wallmart it was at 2200 and the Check Engine Light had come on, WTF WTF!!!! I shut off the car, got out and checked for any vacuum leaks. Found none. I let it cool off for about 30 minutes while I shopped then came back and it's been at a constant 1600 RPM all the way home. The Check Engine Light never came back one either.
WTF???? I have no vacuum leaks, now that I think about it, it was like that most of time, I just didn't notice because I was moving.
Please help me out??? Would water on something cause this???
Thanks.

My car does the exact same thing yours does!! Ive been figting this proablem for almost two years!! I have a Autoxray scanner and all my sensors are good. Just reciently I got a code 51 or 52 cant remember, but it turns out my computer is bad. So when I put the new computer in it should be fixed.

Well, what does your car have to say about it? What codes come up under the check engine light? My guess would be that you got water in either your IAC or somehow in/under your distributor cap. But first, give us the codes, then we can go from there. - John '89 L98

Well, no water under the dist, and when I started it, it seemed fine idleing @1000. then when it warmed a bit, it went up to 1350 and now it just idles around 1200 very irratically like it cuts out every couple or seconds and then goes again. It never goes over 1300 or below 900, it just surges between. I'll go and get the erroe codes in a few when I can.

OK.....I pulled out my car and ran the error codes. I got 22, 33, and 45. then for **** & giggles, I disconnected my battery for about 1 minute to clear the codes. The I got back in my car, started it, and it ran perfect! I let it run for about 2 minutes reving it every now and then then I shut it off.
I ran for error codes again and got none and my car runs great now!
My question is, is running my car for just about 2-3 minutes enough for the computer to detect problems and store the codes or should I drive my car around to make sure?????
Thanks.
