Hard Starting Continued possible FPR

ok i was talking to a friend (teaches autoshop @ local vocational school) now he said check fuel pressure regulator, maby it was releasing the pressure back to the tank because the fuel pump comes on, goes off then comes on when cranking. now when it goes off the pressure drops. and when it cranks the pressure comes back. now i donot have a guage to fit the rail (coming soon) so i cannot see this in action.

i did however hookup a vacume hose to the vacume fitting on the regulator and sucked from it....strong taste of gas so i am asuming it is leaking.

now instead of replacing the regulator with a oem, i was thinking to change it to a ajustable. now i asw in summit's catalog, the crane ajustable one (cheepest i have found). now in the catalog it says uses oem diaphram....what is that? if my regulator is bad can i use it??

anyyimput on th eprob will be apriciated....the fuelpump is new and relay is good, filter is new. mods are in sig.

The Crane and just about any other brand adjustable unit you can buy only gives you the cover with the screw in the top which makes it adjustable. If the diaphram is bad you would have to buy a new OEM style unit to get the diaphram I think.

you may need to replace the feul pump relay on the firewall. On the FAQ for this site it mentions this common problem along with this fiz. It workrd for me.

Accel makes an adjustable FPR that does come with a new diaphragm. I purchased one a couple of years ago from Summit. It works fine, but I believe that the TPIS unit is better.
