Torque wrench +extension?

Hey, I was wondering if a torque wrench would be thrown off an accurate reading if an extension was on the socket? Need to know as I will be re-assembling my TPI manifold in a few hours. Thanks

not If you keep the socket-extension straight. Torque is measured as if from the center of a circle and the handle of the wrench is the outer part of the circle. As long as the nut-bolt is in the center of the "circle" it would be fine.

as long as it doesn't increase the length of the lever, or torque wrench, you'll be fine. the lenght from the socket to the square drive doesn't change only the height from the socket to the square drive.

depends how much torque of course. and depending on the length of the extension, it could very well "twist" some.

But you may or may not know that a torque wrench isnt a very accurate way to get the right torque anyway, so might as well go for it.

No, the socket extension will not alter your Torque readings.

Actually, adding a longer handle on your torque wrench shouldn't change it either. The gauge part of it stays in the same spot.

Nothing you do will change the reading dramatically, and the torque wrench may not be completely accurate in the first place so it probably doesn't matter much. When using an extension I always try to keep the wrench perfectly straight(or perpendicular, actually) anyway.

Thanks to all, Anyone know the torque specs for a tpi manifold and rest of the tpi stuff? My haynes manual conveniently has a few important pages ripped out of it

Runner to manifold bolts are 25 ft-lb according to Alldata, and manifold to head bolts are 35 ft-lb. It also wouldnt hurt to recheck them after the car has been driven for a few days.
