Idle and O2 question!!
Idle and O2 question!!
Hey whats up everyone, I've missed this board!
The first question i have concerns my IDLE. I have and 88 T/A TBI 305. Lately i noticed when i start my car in the morning (been sitting for awhile) it starts up fine, usual puff of smoke, but now after about 5 seconds the RPMs Go up and Down... Also when im driving in slow school traffic in the morning when i lightly tap the gas and let off my RPM's dip real low, giving slight hesitation. I have no clue why this is happening?? Please be detail about a possible answer for I am no expert on my car by any means!
The second question is about the O2 Sensor, Is it true that I would get bad gas mileage with an O2 sensor that is in need of replacement. I was wondering if that was true and how much money it would cost me to replace it!...
Thanks as always!
Joe

Umm... I need to buy a O2 sensor too. But why did you say invest in a socket? Do they wear our too?

I've survived just fine without a socket, although my car hasn't seen the harsh effects of salt. My old oxygen sensor came right out with a wrench, but as long as you're disposing of the old sensor, just cut the wire and use a deep-well socket. It's much stronger than a dedicated oxygen sensor socket. To install the new one, a wrench will be adequate. If you overtighten the new one you'll strip it anyway.
