Clutch Chatter

I just replaced it and it chatters alot. It stops with any pressure on the pedal. What is it, is it bad, and how can I fix it?

Totally just guessing here, but maybe you didn't break in the clutch properly and it hasn't "seated" well enough for smooth operation...

Did you have the fly wheel resurfaced?

Same here! Maybe 3 weeks ago I got a new tranny, clutch, and they machined up the flywheel..

Sometimes it chatters upon takeoff.. Sometimes it doesn't.. I assume it's my driving style, but I've been trying to isolate the part of my style that's causing it...and I can't seem to reliably duplicate a non-chattered launch.. bah!

I was REAL NICE on it the first 250 miles, too!

One very common mistake people do when changing a clutch is not replacing the pilot bushing. This allows the transmissions input shaft to bounce around and causes clutch chatter when taking off.

The other obvious think is to make sure the flywheel was resurfaced. I had one clutch that was a little moody and that was because it had a lot of Kevlar in it. That will make the clutch a little grabby and chatter especially when the clutch gets hot.

I did resurface the flywheel. I can live with the chatter if its not going to cause any problems.

Mine does the Exact same thing as tealas. I didnt repalce the pilot bearing, so next time I have the tranny out i will have to do that. It just goes to show, that if your gonna do somthin, do it right the first time. Guess I ll just have to learn from this one.
