which stage is best when buying a shift kit??

I bought a kit out of summit for my tranny called transpak. I just blew my previous tranny. So I'm having a new one installed right now. I want the 700r4 to be able to handle the power and i want second gear scratches possibly 3rd. Bottom line i want neck snapping shifts. I 've heard different about it being good for your tranny, and I've heard it will tear one up.
This new tranny im getting comes w/ a warranty. Buy putting in a performance valve body i void the warranty. Can i switch in the old valve body if the tranny breaks and get a new tranny? will i get caught?
thanks for any help, i need this info fast because my vette comes back tommorow!!

Send it back, the B&M kit is trash. The Trans-Go kit is MUCH MUCH better, yes it is more money ($120) but when it comes to this, you get what you pay for. I've heard too many horror stories with the B&M kits. The tranny shop that rebuilt my tranny and installed the shift kit refuses to warranty trannies with the B&M kit installed... that tells you something.

from what i hear from a few sources, shift kits are pretty hard on your tranny.. all they do is usually delay the shift, making it shift harder, remember the higher the rpm when it shifts, the more wear and tear the clutches and bands take...

From what I've heard, Trans-Go shift kits give you a harder shift by reducing the clutch overlap time which actually reduces the wear and tear on the clutches and bands. B&M shift kits firm up the shift by eliminating the accumulators. So a B&M kit might shorten the life of your transmission, while a Trans-Go might help save it, who knows.

The usual consensus here when this question comes up is to use a Trans-Go instead of a B&M. It won't hurt anything, and it may extend the life of your clutches. The kit alone won't extend the life of your transmission as a whole, though. The extra fun you'll have with those hard shifts will probably break something else. The later model 700 can actually be built up into a pretty stout transmission capable of taking pretty much whatever a street car can give it.

You might be able to swap the valve body into a new core later, as long as the valve body itself doesn't get damaged in any way.

As for the stage you want, that's pretty much a matter or personal preference.

The shift kits work by increasing the line pressure to the clutches which reduces slippage and decreasing wear the side effect is a "harsher shift". In many cases they bypass the accumulators. The purpose of the accumulators is to delay the shifts for a softer feel. They also allow you to program the shift feel and the shift points.

Also with the TransGo shift kit there are modifications made to the seperator plate. Holes are filled in and new holes drilled, so if your worried about warranty work that may need to be replaced before you take it back for warranty work.
Then with the accumulator there are 2-3 washers added in there from the kit.

These are a few of the things a GOOD Tranny man might see and know that the tranny has been modied.
Hope it helps you.

I've looked for that kit and i couldnt find it in my summit catalog. So I figured i heard wrong and its name was trans pak.
But i just got back from the tranny shop and the car still isnt done!!
This was my first time up their. Yall wont believe what happened to my tranny. I went up thier to pick it up and it wasnt ready. We'll i bitched and moaned about it being there a week and they changed the subject, by telling me they want to show me the tranny. I was expecting a bucket full of parts and a case. What i got was 3 shop talls filled with metal shavings and chunks of gearing and misc metals. I asked "this is it thats what their is left?" he said yep. And then asked me what i did to do that. He said that he's been in the buisness 15 yrs and has never seen it like that. Well w/ my ego hurt i asked him if it would ne ready tommorrow. he said yes.
Heres my q&a
Should i ask him if he could do a valve body job for me. He said he could. But it wont be a kit he said. He said that he would do all the springs and ***** and extra holes. All for $50
Should i do it? Will it be as good as a transpak
thanks

Put in corvette parts. The info is around here somewhere i'm sure, either in the archives or a tech article. I'm not looking it up for you though. There are about 5-6 corvette spec tranny parts that will do everything a shift kit does, except be cheaper and more reliable.
