Ticking noise

Ok, well i took apart the distributor cap and dried out the connections. When the car starts it won't stay running and makes a ticking sound. Could that just be from the timing being off??

Yes. Mine was ticking until I adjusted my timing. Another source of a tick could be an exhaust leak.

Prolly 90% of the time the "I have a ticking sound" question gets asked, its an exhaust leak.

I'd bet my money if it didn't do that before the dried out connections, that its your timing. However, our 99 tahoe has an intake leak and it has a ticking sound....I think an exhaust leak is present too.

it's most likely an exaust leak. but another source of ticking would be your lifters being dirty and loose, happened on my bro's 89 bird.

thanx all for the replies. Well I got the timing adjusted. Looks like there is an exhaust leak coming from the driver side header. I'll replace that and see what happens
