Car: 1987 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROCZ
Engine: L98 350, mini ramed and camed
Transmission: T56 6 speed manual
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3:73 limited slip
Do all third gens have computers

I would like to get another camaro with out being computer controlled, but still be emissions friendly in california. I want to change the cam with out screwing around with the electronics. Thanks for all the help!!

Simple answer: No. Not all thirdgens are computer controlled.



The ones that currently are computer controlled, doesn't mean they have to be that way.

What years arent computer controled. and dosen't it have to have the computer for all the emissions.

No and yes. The cat is obviously done by itself and its not mechanical. the smog pump is not controlled by the computer. But the O2 sensor and all the other sensors ARE.

GM started using CCed q-jets on like 1980 camaros didnt they?

and the 82-83 crossfires were obviously computer controlled...

All thirdgens with Federal and California emissions were computer controlled from the factory. Canadian LG4's, LQ8's, and I believe LC1's were not computer controlled from the factory.

There are no California emissions legal non-computer controlled thirdgens.

AIR injection pumps themselves are not an ECM device, but the port and divert valves (to control the injected air) are linked to the ECM - even on the '82 Quardrajet cars.
