Need help with starting
Alright, I'm pretty sure it's the alt. but i thought I would ask here first b 4 i went out and bought one.
When I turn the key, all I get is a click, no starter just the clicking.
So is it the starter or alt?
thanks

Have you tried the usual things? Check battery voltage. should be over 12 volts. check battery clamps, remove, clean, grease and replace. try jumper cables. The limited symtoms you state are classic dead battery. A bad alternator could be the cause of why the battery went dead but you have to start the car to tell for sure. A tip that I saw read in Popular Mechanics: A quick way to tell if an alternator is charging is to place a screwdriver at the back of the alternator on the rear bearing. If you detect a slight magnetism, the alternator is working. I tried it, it works. Another tip to tell if the alternator is bad: Jump start the car, remove the cables, if the alternator is bad, the battery will run down quickly and the engine will stop.
