engine building questions

in school i had this class about building/rebuilding small motors. We mainly handled lawn mower, and engines of that sort. nothing big but then again it was a hands on experience i tackled for the first time ever. I managed to build them nice and they ran great. my question is, how hard is it to build a car engine? i was thinkin about getting my hands on a 350 block and having it all machined and everything and starting from there. do you think its very similar in comparison? would i be able to tackle this? Also, should i still look into getting some of those manuals recommended by everyone?

It's not hard just needs accuracy.
It's the same concept as small engine repair just add a few more items and a lot more money.

Buy the Helms.

You'll never know if you can handle it unless you try. If you can, it's always nice having someone handy that's done it before in case you run into any problems or have questions.

I've built 2 engines. A DOHC turbo 4 and a 355. I didn't know I could build an engine until I tried.

i don't beleive there is any direct coralation between a little briggs and a SBC. if you're wanting to make HP improvements the briggs is much harder by far to do. read a few books on engine building, maybe watch someone that knows what they're up to.
