greesing my car?????

last week I bought a grease gun. I have never done this before and without reading my shop manuel I did it. Later I read it and it said to keep putting grease in till it starts to come out. THen it says only fill 2 of them (cant remember which ones) till they are firm to the touch. If they are filled till grease leaks out it can break the seal, and if this happens I have to get new ones. Anyway I over filled them. Should I be worried? Should I change them? can it cause any damage because I have driven 280 miles this week?

don't sweat it, it's not too crucial a deal. I usually just give it 3 or 4 pumps and not even pay attention to what it does. normally you just pump it till you can see the boots move. idler arms and pitman arms will only take so much grease before forcing the gun away from the zerk anyway. you will not break any seals because the boots are only fitted over the joint, not sealed. overfilling them will only create a mess, not a problem.

Blowing a seal might be either urban legend, a bad porno, or an overcautious manufacturer watching their back. I also do what Snakeskinner said, give the fittings 3-4 shots, and move on. Of course, make sure grease comes out of the gun (sometimes I get air pockets in there, don't know how).

I got an air-powered grease gun last year; talk about fun!
