normal engine idle

whats the average normal engine idle speed? I have shorty headers and a accel ignition coil and nothing much more than that

Depends on what transmission you have. It should be stamped on the sticker for your fan shroud. I shoot for 650 manual trans 700/750 auto at least according to my factory tach.

The sticker may be on the bottom surface of the hood (my '86 is).

Factory idle for my LG4 was 500 RPMs warmed up in gear, AC off. With the mods, it idles at - 500 RPMs warmed up in gear, AC off.

The 396 idles a little faster than that, mostly because I've got it adjusted so it behaves at the track where it doesn't get quite as warm as it does on the street.
