Solid Roller motor questions
Solid Roller motor questions
What all do I need to do to convert to a solid roller setup? Can it be driven on the street? I was told I may lose vacuum to the point where i woudln't be able to run power brakes or run a/c. My firebird now has a 383 that has currently run a 11.09 @ 122 with a hydraulic roller cam. I was told that I could make it have about 600-650 hp with the proper solid roller setup. Any advice greatly appreciated!

AFAIK there are no solid roller lifters in the factory configuration. They're all of the design that has been around for decades before the factory's hack job on the concept. So it doesn't matter whether you start with a "roller" block or not.
You'll need a cam & a set of lifters (duh) and a cam button, and the right length push rods which you won't know what it is until you get all the rest bolted up.
Whether it's "streetable" or not depends on the cam profile you get. There's nothing about using solid rollers that inherently can't be used on the street.
As far as how much additional power you could get, that would depend on the rest of your setup; heads most of all, and induction and exhaust and gearing and trans and converter. I seriously doubt that a 600-650 HP N/A motor would be very street-friendly though, unless it was alot more inches than some little thing like a 383 or other small-bore motor.
