help - car won't start!

I havent really driven the firebird in a little over a week, and when I went to start it up, all lights and accessories come on, but when I turn the key, nothing happens at all!

Any ideas? It doesn't seem to be the battery because like I said, radio, lights etc. work fine.

Help!

The starter chews a lot more amps than lights and whatnot...hook up the jumper cables or charger and try again.

check the battery and see what you really have, check for power on the starter side of the fuseable link. if you have power to the starter check the starter

Thanks guys for the help!

I had put the jumper cables on last night for a good while and nothing came out of it. So perhaps it's the starter then? If so, any recommendations of what type of starter to get?

Not likely the starter...bad starters usually turn the engine but too slowly to start it.

Next easy step is the starter interlock. If you have an automatic trans, it's the park/neutral safety switch. Move the shifter to Neutral position and try to start it. Maybe wiggle the shifter handle in Park (wheels chocked for safety) while the key's in the start position.

If you have a manual trans, the switch is on the clutch pedal.

I had the same problem and replaced both the battery and alternator. Ended up being a fuseable link near the start connection. It was still connected but it was shorting to the frame..

I had the same problem today, turned out the starter solonoid was loose. Tighten it up and it started right up.

No problem. It's simple. Go underneath the car and wiggle the solinoid. If it moves then you need to tighten the soliniod to starter bolts. There is one that can be seen from underneath, itas a philipps head i think, the other is in top, directly opposite if the bottem one.

Hope this helps

Matt
