Won't start, will crank, fan runs/temp up?

1992 camaro with 3.1 died suddenly. Engine will crank but not start. When I turn the key to the on position the radiator fan immediately runs and the temperature guage will zoom to and lock in at the highest temp even though the engine is cold. I don't seem to have spark at the plugs; coil and wires are new. I tried starting with the fan relay and temp sending units disconnected but still no start. It is almost as if there is some sensor that says the engine temp. is way over specs. shut the system down? Any ideas appreciated.

The problem turned out to be a bad ignition module. I still do not know why it would have such an effect on the radiator fan and temperature guage? Both have returned to normal?

I've never heard of an ignition module doing that before. If you ask me I think that the ignition switch may be on its way out as well, maybe not engaging fully. I would maybe look in to it as well.
