wobbling steering wheel!!!!! NEED HELP
ok i have an 89 Iroc-Z w/ stock steering wheel and tilt.
if you put your hands on the top and the bottom of the steering wheel. it rocks back and forth. The "tilt" still works and the wobbling only happens in the up and down direction, not side to side.(if your sitting inthe drivers seat, like drivingthe car)
Does anybody know what holds the steering column in place and have any pictures of there steering column out of the car. Any pictures or diagrams would greatly help me to figure what is wrong with my steering wheel. I don't feel completely safe w/ a wobbling steering wheel.
If this is in the wrong area, please move it to the proper area.
Thank yuo

I don't have pictures, but I've fixed the tilt column issue.
There are several posts on this already. Below is probably the BEST post regarding this issue.

Essentially you have to tighten 4 torx bolts at the base of the column.
You will need a steering wheel puller, and a few other goodies. You can probably rent most of them from Autozone if you don't have them already.

sounds like the bolts are loose at the tilt joint. 3 torx head bolts are all you need to tighten. i think there's a tech artical on the main page. if you have to buy a socket buy a deep one, it'll give you a lot more access to the bolts. mine cost around 10 dollars from snap on.

thanks vader, i only have three problems as of right now.
1- that long rod that goes from th bottom of the column to the top by thehigh beam linkage. i don't exactly know how that gets linked up
2- the piece that goes under the turn single switch ***. that little white piece w/ 2 copper piece hanging out. i broke one of those pieces of copper.
3-I'm not 100% sure on how the bearing go back into place on the steering shaft.
