Temp Sensor for AFR heads

Temp Sensor for AFR heads

AFR had an option for drilling a hole for a temp sensor I have a 91 TPI do i need this or not?

Yes, it is for the ECT (engine coolant temperature) for the ECM. Sucks that they charge extra

I thought my engine coolant temp was up on the front of my intake manifold?

You don't need them, as long as you can do without your temp gauge and your fan switch.

Just get them installed. If you find you don't need them, put pipe plugs in them. It's one hell of alot cheaper to get them put in now than to be standing next to an assembled car except for one last part, staring at an undrilled boss, and realizing that you now have to take it all apart and send the heads out to get done what should have been done at the factory.

Yup, common sense.... it seems kind of stupid for AFR to even offer the option of leaving the holes out, considering that just about everybody will need them, even for a strip-only car. But then they do several things about their product that strike me as stupid; great castings, but the finished product is less than it should be.

Wow I called AFR this mourning to add the temp sensor hole to my heads and the sales rep told me about a month ago they started including that hole on every head so mine already was drilled for the temp sensor. Just thought u guys might like to know.

Didn't need holes in my application. There were 3 holes in my HSR manifold, one for heater hose, one for the gauge sensor & one for the computer, no need for one in the head.

there are other places that you can route that temperature sensor. i believe you can get a thermo housing with as many as three holes for different applications.
