have you done any trouble shooting? have fire? have fuel? since it'll spin that pretty much rules out the battery and starter.

Same as you would with any other kind of engine or fuel system.

Squirt some fuel into the intake. If it runs until that fuel runs out, you have a fuel delivery issue.

This isn't rocket science. It's just a car. Engines need 3 things in order to run: air/fuel mixture in reasonable proportion; spark at about the right time; and compression. Now, your bud's car was driving down the street just fine one minute, and the next it wouldn't run. So, it's reasonable to presume that one and only one of th emagic ingredients suddenly vanished, rendering the engine helpless. Right? All you have to do is figure out which one it is. Too easy. Give it fuel, see if it runs; if it does, then the other 2 magic ingredients are stil there. Give it fuel and it doesn't run, then one of the other 2 magic ingredients is AWOL. etc. etc. It's just logic.

Personally, I'd rather have a no-start condition to troubleshoot any day, compared to a runs-terrible problem, or worst of all, a runs-terrible-once-in-a-rare-while problem. That's the kind my wife's cars always seem to develop.

If that isn't just the truth of the matter.

haha, yeah, i miss those posts....bastards....and i hate the problematic runs like crap every 3 days issues.....

and with ecm controlled cars, its not so simple ......you have to find out whats not happening correctly, then find the part causing it to act funny....which isnt fun with obd 1 cars......i sugegst getting a scanner, or buying mine ...and not one of those "pulls the codes only" 20 dolalr scanners.......you can pull codes with a hair pin. ou need something that tells real time operating values. and even then obd 1 doesnt tell you enough to figure much out. altho is does tell you rpm, engine temp, and other crap thats not too useful when trying to fix a car that DOESNT RUN!!!!
