seperate Timing issue
When i was checking to see if the distributor was off a tooth because the vacuum advance canister was sitting kinda towards the firewall...(think of these two keystrokes <../ as the metal nipple for the advance canister)...the slash is were it "should" be in relation to the front of the manifold... and mine is were the other one is...so i went a tooth back..it idled a little different, ran rough obviously wrong..went 2 teeth forward and it wouldnt run unlles the advance canister was almost around touching the firewall..so i said F**K it and took out the distributor and the number 1 plug...spint the motor till it shot my finger out and put it back in on number one...treid to fire it and it would spin over fine but as soon as i gave it gas it would barely turn over...so i figured i was 180 out...took it out put it back in 180..wouldnt crank over when i gave it gas...i was half tempted to go around tooth by tooth till it fired...bit i was to p!ssed off by then..
i know its easier then hell but i cant figure it out AGAIN
Thanks again

Can you explain to me why it cant be a tooth off?....i mean if u spin it over and just fire number and put in pointing to number one., then why wouldnt it be a tooth off cuz your going to 1 and it just fired one...i never understood that...
i do have a timing light, but i have a problem with that..im running a carbed LT4 motor and since the LT1's with opti's use a 7 1/2 inch balancer..this wouldnt fit under the opti block off plate, so it requires a 6 3/4 inch balancer..i reused the balancer off my LB9 motor..the timing tape is still there but not really visiable (dirt, grime)..so ill get another tape...now on the SBC's they have a little tab on the timing cover for the timing...well i cant get that little tab on the LT1 timing cover to go over the balancer to see exaclty were it is....when i fired it i set it to were the motor ran the smoothest...i went retardted and advanced to see were it ran the smoothest...which i beleive is 8-10 degress..
now i cant even get the motor to turn over even if i could set the timing "correctly"....
Thanks EDE
