Pretty Cool News.
My fiance just told me that we're getting a classic car for free. It's a Pontiac Le Mans. Somewhere between the years of 65' and 67'.
It was her grandfathers and now we're finally getting it. It needs some minor body work along with some exhust work. Other than that, the car is in awesome shape.
What motor and tranny came in those things? Were they quick?
Pretty cool huh? :lala:

The most common combo was a 326 2-barrel and a Powerglide. A few had a 389 or 400 4-barrel (depending on year) and Turbo 400. I don't recall any of them getting 6-cylinders like the regular Tempest sometimes did. Both of those were Pontiac motors. Most likely it'll be the 326 version.
The 326 ones weren't particularly "quick", but they weren't "slow" either. They were roughly comparable to the 327 2-barrel Chevelles, which of course were merely Chevy cars built on the same platform.

long time ago when i first got out of high school and was working in a garage a woman had one towed in. she had got it from her dad after he died. she knew the timing chain was bad and her dad had let the car sit for over a year before he died. anyway it was a 326 and i put a new timing chain and gear set in it. back then the cam gear had a plastic piece fitted to a steel center. the plastic would break off arounf 70,000 miles or so. to make sure no small pieces of plastic was in the pan i drained the oil, grease out of a grease gun would of flowed better. i changed the oil, ran it till it was hot and changed it again becasue it would set the oil light below 2000 rpm. after second oil change with a 40w or 50w equipment oil we sold called facto to told her about the new problem. she siad she doubted her dad ever changed the oil since he bought the car new. she paid for it and drove it home. she called again for a tow, it never made it the 10 miles to her house. long story, but the point is inspect the car carefully before you start to drive it.

the 2 door models were ok looking, kinda big and odd lookin but kinda neat.. the 4 doors.. well they were ugly old family cars... any old car for free is a good deal by me though
I got a free le mans from one of my friends mothers becasue it didnt run and she bought a new car.. sweet ride.. 3 cyl 80 somethin.. to make a long story short me and a friend got it running and used it as a bumper car and ran it into stuff for a day or so then took it to the junk yard and got 50 bucks for it
(after my friend drove it into a street sign at approx 45-60 mph which in turn ripped off the oil filter housing and a piece of the block when we went over it.. left a really neat oil/coolant slick, lucky we were a block from the wrecking yard.. drove it up rods knocking and pooring smoke.. went inside got the 50 bucks without them even looking at it.. dont think there was a useable part left on it.. well the starter worked..)

We're going to take a look at it today. I'm gonna take some pictures of it and get all the info I can on the car.
I'll post the pictures when I get home.
