Block numbers
Ok i just pulled some numbers off of my 350 TPI and wondering what these numbers tell me. The reason I want to rumn the number is b/c the lady who had this engine before blew it up and I don't know if shee had the block replaced or rebuilt.
Here they are?
F117 this was on the drivers side of the back of the block
14093638 this was on the the pass side on the back
4 was kind of on the drivers side but faceing towards the fender if you were to read it (mabye it means 4 bolt main
)
638 was on the side of the head

14093638 = block casting #
F117 = date code when it was cast; 11th day of the Fth month (6th, June) of a year ending in 7 (would be 87 in this case), so the motor probably came out of a 88 vehicle
4 = no particular meaning, doesn't mean 4-bolt main because that isn't a casting feature (the factory simply installs either 2- or 4-bolt caps to a block, as required)
638 = last 3 digits of casting #
