security on/off ? need help

security on/off ? need help

Hey guys, i have an 1987 TA, when i bought it it started no problems, after a few months, it wouldn't start. My friend foudn out t hat i had t oput the right signal on to start it. And now, i don't have to anymore. it's like there a switch I'm touching somewhere to activate the anti theft somewhere. I really have no idea where it would be, or how. Any would no?!
not it's off, i would like to turn it back on.

antitheft 87 ta

Sounds like wires inside sterring column were misalligned, or shorted, so that only by turning and indicator did ignition engage.

I never heard of no antitheft on a '87 like that. '89's and onwards had a special resistor key that you had to use to start car.

that could be a possibility, but another of my f-body buddies, new this, he told me me to try and turn on the right flasher. and it worked ( when i first noticed it wasn't starting). I guess i can always bring it to school, we're doing Circuits and wiring now, (automecanics). i'm sure they'll have a look at it for me
guess that's all i can do for now...

87 secuity

Have you tried seeing if there's a correlation between the position of the steering column, and whether or not it will start? On my '86 TA, it won't start unless the steering column is tilted down. I have to tilt the collumn up to get out of the car, then lower it back down, when I'm ready to roll. So when I leave it, it is basically sort of a security feature.
