Temperature Gauge

I've got a 89 Iroc w/305. I just replaced the temp sending unit, but the gauge still doesn't work. The gauge is bottomed out when the car starts and looks to raise just a little as it warms up. (not enought to register a reading of any sort) Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance!

Well i'm not a lot of help, but i can tell you how to see if the guage works at all...unplug the sender and turn the key on, the guage should peg out. If not then you definitely have a bad guage, or a medium resiatnce short to ground somewhere.

Where was the sending unit that you replaced? On my 86 305, it is located near the spark plugs between cylinders 1 and 3. I had the same problem once, turned out the wire just came off. If you replaced the one in the front of the engine, that one controls the ECM. Hope this helps.

I replaced the sensor on the front driver's side. I was under the impression this was the correct one, below and between the front and 2nd from front exhaust ports.

You had the right one, sorry if I am not much help. Try Ed's idea. Also check the wire, see if it may have got burn't in half or something.

You could just be running really cold. The mark just below horizontal on my guage is 190'F. The lowest mark is around 120 I think. Not likely but possible.
