Got a code 34, like every other TPI car in the world. Haven't checked it out yet, but I have a feeling there is some faulty wiring with the relays. When I get on the gas hard, the SES light seems to flicker. It doesn't go out, but it dims. Sometimes on bumps too. Seems to me like a bad ground or loose connection. Anyone had this before that can point me in the right direction?

 

You can get it from a dirty or mis-adjusted throttle body, a leaky air duct from the air filter to the throttle body, or a low,rough unstable idle. Right now I have an intermittent code 33 I'm tracking down. The car will stumble and light comes on for about three seconds and goes off.

 

Check out your relays and relay connectors. The connectors themselves frequently get caked with dust, grime, and moisture. You can clean and degrease the connectors and apply fresh silicone grase to seal them. The same thing can happen at the MAF connector.

As for the relays themselves, you can remove and open them to inspect contacts, but if they are even a little questionable, replacements are only about ten bucks each.

BTW - What the heck are you doing with that car out in the snow?

 

It's not an intermittent code, it's got a steady light. The light seems to dim and flicker under load. One time I hit a bump and the light went out for a few seconds then came right back on.

Vader: not doing much with the car in the snow thats for sure. That pic was taken in my driveway. It's just whats left over from our last storm on the ground. Trust me, I don't even try to take it out.

 

Connect a voltmeter to the MAF output terminal and see what it is sensing. It's still advisable to check the connections and relays, but it sounds like you may have a connection problem at the ECM and/or instrument panel as well, including grounds.
