Is it worth it? (83 t/a)

I found a 1983 firebird trans am with 75k original miles, good body, paint, interior, tires, & good running 305 tbi I might be able to get it for around $1500-$1800. The t-tops are good, but it's got a broken windshield, and a few other little things wrong, it's been in storage for the last 10 years. I am hoping to swap the pathetic 305 for a 350 or 383 eventually and am wondering what I should do for performance parts? I am on a limited budget and am just wanting a good reliable daily driver with power when you want it. I really don't want to spend any more than $2000 on the engine. Sorry about all of the questions I am kinda new to the whole performance world.

Thanks alot for answering my questions

I like the price. I'd prefer TPI to TBI, but I'm sure some of the TBI guys have a few tricks up their sleeves. Supercharging (at least, centrifugal) with either would be easier than with what I've got to work with. It would probably cost you more than 2k though, but I'm sure you'd be happy with the results. Check the TBI boards, or do a search; I'm sure you could find something useful regarding modifying TBI engines. HOWEVER, if it's been in storage for 10 years I'd rather take that 2k and take care of all general maintenance FIRST, i.e. suspension, brakes, oil/coolant leaks, anything that isn't operating at 100%. It's not uncommon to find something wrong with these cars being as old as they are. If it runs good enough for you and it'll get you where you need to go, I say ****** it or you might find yourself doing this ->

That's a pretty sweet t/a but I live in Nebraska so I don't really want to drive to Rhode Island just to look at it. Thanks though
