fuel questions..octane and additives..

is it true a vehicle can get "used" to one certain type of gas. The reason i ask is that my truck will run fine on 7-11 or ez mart gas.. any octane level.. no additives. My mom offered to fill my tank the other day for free... so i jumped on it right.. the only thing is her credit card was for chevron.. i put the 90 octane... truck ran like crap till i used it all up and put my usuall ez mart gas.. could the techron additives there gas has be the reason it ran so bad.. just wondering, i still will take free gas anytime from there 45.00 to fill up is a hit in the pants....

i'd suspect water or something else caused the problem. i don't beleive an engine can get use to one type or brand of fuel.

Maybe a bad batch? When you're running low, go put in $5 of some other gas in (chevron or shell or whatever) and see if it makes a difference. I can't imagine an engine "getting used to" a particular brand of gas.

I personally stay away from those cheapo gas stations, and they are usually the same price or more expensive than brand name gas anyway.

i always buy gas from the same place(s) so if i run into a problem with fuel i know where it came from. way back when they used steel storage tanks it was a lot more of a problem than it seems to be now.

I worked in the local Shell Company. "Underground" tanks in gas stations can have leaks/filtrations producing a gas/water mix. You can claims to Chevron's Control Quality dept. for a test in these Gas Station.

Computer-controlled cars do in fact "get used" to fuel over the long term; they also "get used" to driver habits. They contain tables of spark and fuel outputs taht they modify over many iterations of passing through those cells and determining that the mixture was incorrect or that the engine knocked etc.

I'd bet that if you filled it up a couple more times with the "new" gas and then changed back, you'd have the same thing happen.
