Idle Problem

I have a small idle problem. when i first start the car, it starts fine, but once and a while it will idle hard, like it isn't getting enough fuel maybe. if i rev the engine, it revs hard for about 30-45 seconds, then after that it idles fine. it doesn't seem like it matters if the engine is warm or not. but it doesn't happen all the time. at first i thought that my idle speed was too low, but then again it doesn't happen all the time so i am having second thoughts. anyone have this problem and know how to fix it. its not that big of a deal but i just want the thing to run smooth.

I have the same prolbem in my 89' IROC, like if it runs for a lil bit and you turn the car off for like 10 min. then dry to turn it on it wont idle and u have to give it gas, but like you said, not all the time, I was thinking of either a bad connection with the idle controller or maybe a leaky injector, but i really dont think so.

Check the idle air control (IAC) motor and recalibrate it. There's a tech article on this site with the procedure. You might also want to spray some carb cleaner in the IAC passages.

Sometimes, the IAC doesn't properly meter the amount of air entering the throttle body, which causes the idle to be erratic.
