intake question

im not sure if this si the correct place to post this but w/e, right now i have a k&n filter in the stock intake, from the looks of it the stock setup looks like it is pretty bad, it seems very cconstricted to me and i want to find a way to put on a straight open filter or maybe expand the existing setup, im not sure how i would do either tho, and suggestions or help would be nice

To do an "el-cheapo" but usefull mod, go to the junkyard and find an aircleaner lid that is the same diameter as the K&N filter. That should be about 12" or 14", measure to be sure. They'll charge you a buck or two.

Then replace the original lid. This will give you a lot more air than that factory pea-shooter.

The best replacement is a dual snorkle outfit from one of the 305 HO engines they made for the 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds. They are now quite rare but look around. They are worth 1/4 of a second in the quarter mile on a 305 3rd gen! And be sure to get the entire assembly, including the ducts and flexible hosing. Those parts are not being made or sold by anyone any longer and they are even harder than the cleaner assembly to find

Here's a pic of what you want.

I used to have an old POS 84 caprice, to give it a little more air I simply turned the air cleaner lid upside down.... made a hell of alot more noise when the secondaries opened as well.
