Anything else I need for intake/carb/distro swap?

I've already got the 1406 carb and the 7101 Performer RPM intake from Edelbrock. And I'm going to be replacing the distro (effectively removing the computer from the loop). I'm looking at the Accel Blueprint vacuum advance distributor. This should bolt into my LG4 fine, right? And the Accel Brute Thunder (yellow wire model) coil that I have in there now should work fine, right?

I'm also ordering the Painless Wiring kit for regaining control of the lockup on my TH700-R4.

Now, is there ANYTHING at all that I will need for doing this swap? Any adapters for hte kickdown? Or the throttle cable? Or anything? LOL

I basically want the computer out of the way, even though I won't be actually tearing the thing out of the car... yet. LOL

Gilmour D,

Save yourself about $100 bucks by getting an old vacuum advance HEI (non computer)distributor (you can pick them up rebuilt with warranty from ebay for about $100.00 or just used for around $30.00)

Then get the Crane Vacuum Advance Curve kit for about $25.00. It's so simple that it's frightening.

That's what I've done and several other people I know have done and you'll be impressed.

Sure the magazines try and push high ticket items and don't really boast about the low cost, highly effecient upgrades, because they get more kudos from the manufacturers that way. How much money do you think that Car Craft would make from advertisers if they did a big feature on GM HEI Vac Advance distributor swaps for CC controlled cars?

Try the old HEI and advance curve kit, and if you feel that a hi output coil and ignition would still benefit you, you can pick them up and install them and still be at the same price that the new distributor would cost you, not to mention, you're car would be better tuned.

Dude, that's exactly what I'm paying for hte Blueprint Accel distro. $138. I'm not really losing any money there. It's not like I went for hte MSD for $300.

Besides, what I was asking is if the coil I have is compatible with that distro. I wasn't asking for money saving ideas. And I still need to know if I need anything more.

Intake Gaskets, RTV for the china Walls...

I havent put a edl-1406 On A thirdgen, But I know On My 79 firebird I had to Modify the Throttle Linkage bracket to get it to bolt up. If I recall properly, The Kickdown should line up okay, but You will have trouble getting the cruise control to Go anywhere, as there is no mounting point for it )

other than that, its Cake.

Good Chance to Get in and replace all your Vaccum lines and heater Hoses and Such as well, Cause you will have it all apart anyway.

LOL My cruise died, anyhow. It might be just the wiring or switch, but I'm not too worried right now. But there's also a kit you have to buy for cruise control to work, which I will probably get much later, if I do at all.

And damn skippy, I'm replacing the vacuum hoses. LOL The kid who rebuilt hte engine before I bought the car DID NOT replace them. If I were doing a rebuild that's hte first thing I replace. A couple of htem were held together with electrical tape!!! Then I had a heating problem, so I think I melted one of my valve stem seals, so I've gotta buy a new set of those... I know, a bitch to install... But Dad's a mechanic.

BTW, did you get my e-mail regarding the swap that I sent last night?

You can get the necessary stud for your cruise off a junkyard carb. It unblots and rebolts onto the Eddie linkage, though you might have to drill a hole. I can't remember whether the hole is there or not.

As far as your TV cable, the bracket works, it's a little different from Bort's Pontiac; but you may have to buy the little stud to hook it to. There's a little kit that you can get for each application of the carb, to add the necessary pieces. Just get the right one(s) for a GM Q-Jet car and you should be OK.

That's basically abuot it.

The carb comes with a Chevy linkage. The kit that Edelbrock sells as the Quadrajet Adapter Kit comes with no linkage brackets. Just an adapter for the manifold, gaskets, fuel line, and adapters for the fuel line.

Well Rb, it was a Chevy 305 In that Pontiac

I just had to do a little Bending and Drilling to get holes in the right places, Nothing he couldnt do.

As far as the cruise control, yeah its pretty easy to set up, all you need to do is drill a Hole in the Linkage and stick One of those Pins in there off any old Qjet. There may even already be a hole there I dont recall.
