Do you guys experience this ?

When ever I break heavier than normal, my oil pressure drops to 0 for a couple seconds, and I hear the engine knocking pretty loudly. Is it because all the oil is shifting towards the front of the pan, leaving the oil pick up sucking air ? What can I do to prevent this ? Different design of oil pan ? Put more oil in it ? The oil is at the full level.

That's exactly what it is.

The pickup may have fallen off your oil pump, which magnifies the problem. A better oil pan will help. How much oil is in the engine? Does this happen more when it's a quart low than it does when it's full? If so, try running it with an extra quart and see if that helps.

it sounds like your pickup tube fell off into the pan.

I'm afraid there's probably permanent damage to the bearing now since it knocks. Maybe not... It's a pain the *** to remove the oil pan with the block still in the car huh ! I never tried it, but I guess I'll have to remove the motor mounts, probably disconnect the transmission from its mount and jack up on the engine. Maybe I'll take this opportunity to fix my front seal leak too.. hehe I put another quart of oil in it tonite and I'll see how it does tomorrow when I drive it.

I already have another block lined up for a build up just in case this one decides to "blow" on me. That way I can just swap the new one in place with no downtime.

If you try to remove the pan with the block in BE SURE TO WATCH THE DISTRIBUTER when your raising the block.I learned the hard way,you shouldn't have to unbolt the tranny from the block, but it is a bit*h.Good luck.
