Pics of motor inside, need expertise

this motor is an 88 305 roller around 70k miles, it was burning oil so i pulled the heads, can anyone diagnose the piston color difference? i did a compression check before removing the heads and it all checked out fine, it seems to be fouling the plugs with oil bad on the #5 cyl, and slightly on #2

Well, If you wanted an expert your talking to the wrong Guy...

But Ill take a stab at it

First off, are the plugs Fouled with Oil, or from Running Rich ? If its oil then your intake is leaking oil into the mixture. Not to likely at 70k however, but stranger things have happend. that could also attribute to the discoloration of the pistons, and carbon build up.

Now If thats not the case, then I would say you are Running very Rich on All but #5, Wich Looks lean. But its really hard to tell from here.

now, What sorta Induction your sporting ? TBI or TPI ?

If its TBI, i would lean more towards OIl leakage, just becasue of the nature of the system dosent lend itself to differntiation of lean/rich like that.

If its TPI, I would be looking at a faulty injector On #5. as for it being overly rich on the rest of the Pots, Your gonna have to look at the computer situation and the condition of all your sensors, FPR, and the rest.

Its really hard to say w/o More information.

So first, Decide weather is Oil or Gas fouling the plugs, and then tell us Weather you have TPI or TBI.

the motor was originally TPI i took all that off and put on the stock 86 computer carb setup on it, the cyl walls looked fine and everything, i put on new world product S/R torquer heads and an edelbrock intake manifold and it still fouls the #5 spark plug with oil, nitrous was used on this motor before i owned it, could it be a stuck oil ring or something?

Allright, here we Go.

I SHould make a Macro For this...

If your using the stock 86 E4ME Quadrajet, Are you using all the related sensors and the CCCS ECM ? I doubt it.

If Your not, then That is your problem Right there, Possibly Combined with poor intake seal ( wich is a common mistake, dont feel bad ive done it plenty of times )

So Your another one Running the E4ME Unplugged, right ?

You're blowing oil past the rings on those two cylinders. The excess oil is actually cleaning the top of the piston (acting like a solvent).

Tear the short block down and rebuild. You may just have stuck rings, but more likely they're worn out.

Use synthetic after the break-in and you won't have all that junk built up in there.

yes i'm using all the sensor and computer, the car was originally equipped with that setup i bought the motor which was TPI and i put the carb induction on it, so all sensors and computer controls are working

Unfortunately, Bort, it's the voice of experience. I once had a .030 "rebuilt" 350 that used a quart every 400 miles. Fouled the plugs every 1500. When I finally tore it down, the piston crowns looked like his #5. Turned out it had .030 compression rings but .020 over oil rings.

I ruled the other things out because only two cylinders are doing it, and new heads didn't change anything.

By the way, 86Z, it's a good idea to drain the block before taking off the heads. Keeps antifreeze out of the cylinders. Next time, since you'll be pulling this one apart (or getting a 350 shortblock...).
