A Good Question on What Heads to Get...

Still shopping for heads....
It's for a 350 w/ flat pistons, and a ZZ4 cam.
At first I thought I'd like a set of Vortecs, because of all the good things I've been reading about them. But lately I've been thinking that either the 180cc Protopline Lightnings or the 180cc Dart Iron Eagle would be a better choice.
The reason is because of the cost of upgrading my intake system to the Vortec parts, also both the Protopline heads and the Dart come with a 72cc chamber that would probably give me a CR that is more compatible with the poor quality gas that we find around here.
I'm wondering how the Pro Lightnings and the Iron Eagle heads compare to the Vortecs or how they compare to each other, performance wise?

Thanks for any help

Go to the Chevy High Performance website and find the Flow bench tests for SBC engines. They have documented just about every head available for a SBC. BTW, look at the mid lift numbers more closely than just peak numbers!!! Have fun...

I'm having fun alright...
I checked out the CHP article, Thanks. Unfortunately it doesn't show anything on Protopline heads.

Unless you can get them used, I dont think youll find the ProToplines. Supposedly they quit importing heads to the US, at least their SBC heads. They are good heads if you can find them, though, several members have flow tested them and their numbers are pretty close to Toplines advertised numbers.
