would this be the coolant temp sensor?
i was watching shadetree mechanic today, and they brought up a point when changing the coolant temperature sensor. Since the sensor tells the computer if your engine is cold and when its cold it dumps more fuel, then if it was bad it would run rich 24/7. My car does, it constantly runs rich and gets crappy gas mileage...could this be a reason for the problem?

This sensor is pretty easy to test, I checked mine last week. You need an ohmeter.

The table at the bottom of that page gives the approximate readings you should see if the sensor is good. As the car cools down, you can actually watch the ohmeter reading going up (if you've got a good digital meter).
