305 into a 383 stroker

Any one heard of doing this? How much gains would it give and how much would it cost? What needs to be done to do it? thanks

You can NOT create a 383 out of a 305. the 305 bore is simply too small.

But you can take your 305 out of the car. Go to the junkyard and buy a 350 block for about $50 and turn that into a 383.

It requires a stroker kit, which includes a crankshaft with a longer stroke and rods and pistons to match.

also, the block needs to be bored .030 over. meaning previously the cylinders were 4" in diameter. Now it will become 4.030".

Sure. It's easy. People do it all the time. 2 simple steps:

1. Throw away 305.
2. Buy 383.

You could expand step 2 a little bit; buy 350 block, buy 400 crank or aftermarket 383-specific crank, buy rods & pistons to match, etc. etc. Or, just buy the short block whole.

Yes all the junk will match up, especially if you use a 86-up 350 block.

all i need is any 86-up chevy 350 block. awsome pretty easy. My brother is a mechanic. For Ford uunfortunately but he can help me out with most things. While i'm in there i might as well throw some headers on there and maybe even some edelbrock heads. Any one got any good ideas while it;s torn down. thanks for the help so far.
