Strange Problem!

Well...to start of I have a 3.1 92 RS and the problem is that during normal acceleration my cars RPMs will be like 10,000 - 20,000 higher than normal and my acceleration sucks. As this happens my service light comes on and stays on then about 1-2 minutes later it goes out and everything is better. Im noticing it happening more and more. It doesn't go on when i start my car so ...i don't know how to get the code.

The only modification is that I took out the air box and moved the sensor on the box in the tubing. The sensor is closer to the raidiator so maybe it could be getting to much heat from that. But thats my only suggestion.

Thanks for your help,
Jeff

If your car is ever in the ten-thousand RPM range, let me know what mods you've done.

Anyways, codes are stored in the computer for the last umm.. 50 engine starts, I believe it is. I believe there's a tech article on how to retrieve the error codes.. That would be the best place to start. Anyways, just in case... here's how to retrieve codes.

Go out and buy a high-quality ODB I code scanner. I believe you can find these in Office Max under the "Paper Clip" section. (I.e., it's a paperclip.) Now, fold it in half. Next, locate your ALDL (ADLD? whatever.. hehe). It's going to be underneath dashboard, driver's side. It's either in the middle or the right-hand side, I believe.. Take the rightmost points of the upper and lower rows and stick the paperclip in them. Now, turn the ignition to the "on" position, but don't start it. The SES light will flash, and those flashes correspond to the error code stored.
A flash, a pause, then two flashes is 12. Two flashes, then a pause, then 1 flash is 21. The codes will flash 3 times each, then move on to the next one.

If you get a lot of code 12's, don't worry, the computer sets a code 12 every time you turn the car on and everything's working right.
