Door Disassembly...>>>

Here goes: do I NEED the special tool to remove the top trim piece from the doors? I just have this horrific vision in my head of my old 83 where I pulled off the trim pieces and ripped the cardboard where all 4 clips went. I don't want to do that to the ROC, and I'm amazed they still fit snugly. I tried sliding a fladblade screwdriver under there but it's a very tight fit. Any ideas?

Also, I'm doing all this to reupholster the door panels, adjust the window, and lube the power lock motors. When I do that, where do I put the white lithium grease exactly? I read on an old post to spray the grease all over. Where can I buy the white lithium stuff in spray form? Thanks, any help is appreciated and I'm NOT touching those doors until a few people post!

I just had my doors in pieces a couple of weeks ago, windows out, off the car, new hinge pins, etc., fresh memory....

There's no special tool I know of to remove the top trim piece. You just push it toward the door, and kind of rotate it in the direction it needs to go. Since you've done this before you know which way that is. I've had to remove mine several times over the life of the car and haven't had any trouble with no tool.

Only things that should need grease are the rollers that roll in the tracks. Not the edges of the glass, just the guide rollers.

You should take out the latch mechanism, soak it in some kind of sovent to clean it up, and grease it too while you're there.

I had mine off last week - I just pryed the panels with my hands...just go clip to clip, and pry gently...

I replaced the outer weatherstrips and fixed my power locks

Where did you get the outer weather strips and how much were they?

Thanks

Miles, I got mine at the dealer, seems like they were about $35 apiece. If you decide to get them, replace the little seal at the front edge of the window where it meets the triangualr plastic piece too. Those always rot and turn to dust and create massive wind noise. Another $30 a side or so.
