TPI Fastburn 385

I would like to have this put on desktop dyno if anyone would be willing to do so. After looking at GM crate motors i liked the FastBurn 385(385hp and ft/lbs) except that it was 3000 odd some dollars and the it was on a carb. So I set out to make a TPI version of this.

1) 5.1L HO 350 ZZ3 Camshaft
Duration @ Lash point: 308/316
Duration @ .050 Tappet Lift: 208/221
Lift: .474/.510
Price: 177.28

2) Assemb. Aluminum Fast Burn Heads - 545 each
3) CompCams 1.6 Magnum Steel Roller Rockers - 139.99
4) Hooker Competition Headers - 139.99
5) CraneCams AFPR - 66.99
6) TPIS Throttle Body Airfiol - 59.99
7) Edelbrock High-Flo TPI System - 625.99
I will port the plenum and gasket match the base, runners and plenum. I will also have all the little stuff like wires and high performance cap and coil etc.
Do you think i should upgrade to the Super Comp Headers and I already have a Hooker Cat-bAck System?
I would really like to get an idea of what I will be geeting power wise.
If you need more info just ask, give me time and I will find it out.

If you have suggestions on other parts the might work better, just speak up!
-Thanks

Man, I think you would be better off buying the ZZ430 clone and run it carburated until you can afford a Miniram. That is what I plan to do, and I would also use the Hooker Super Comps with the 1 3/4 Primarys. Butr just my way of thinking.....

You where thinking the samething I was about the headers but I was not sure. Can anyone give me flow numbers on the Mini, Super, Edelbrock and Stock airflow? Also does anyone know what heads and cam they put on the 385 to make it a 430?
-Thanks

The heads on the FastBurn 385 and the ZZ430 are the same, the only difference in the two motors are the cam, and the 1.6 roller rockers. Check out www.sdpc2000.com thats where they have the cheapest ZZ430 clone. They call it the Fastburn 385 with hot cam. I have done alot of looking, but this seems to be the best value Ive found so far. But there is another motor that I found that has some serious potential, it is a 406 crate engine. The way they sell it, it has 435 Hp, but for some extra cash, you can turn it into a full roller, with AFR heads, which would put it near 500Hp. Only problem that I might forsee, is that it is only a 2 bolt main. But that could be easily fixed. Check it out. http://www.allchevyengines.com/406-435.htm

Oh, by the way, the FastBurn 385 uses the ZZ4 cam, while the ZZ430 uses the LT4 Hot cam. They both use the GM Aluminum FastBurn heads. Tell me what you think of that 406

I don't have all the cash so what i want to do is make it by buying the parts a little at a time and installing them. I will go take alook at that 406 tho.

Dont forget the FastBurn heads have the Vortec intake shape and bolt pattern. It wont bolt up correctly to a TPI intake manifold.

That is why i have the edelbrock intake there, one so everything will bolt up(right...?) and so the engine can breath some.

Wait a sec. Kevin, the fastburn heads are drilled for both the conventional, or Vortec intake. That's one reason I bought them, because I haven't decided on an intake (Well, not really, but it sounded good!) They are also milled for either perimeter, or center bolt valve covers.

One thing to consider though, is that there are no provisions for EGR/exhaust crossover in them.

Added dual elec fans.
145 MPH IROC Speedo
Building 430 HP 350 (ZZ430)
using primarily GMPP parts.
Short block sitting on a stand. (Man, those Fast-Burn heads sitting on it look good!)

Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

An edelbrock intake is the same as a regular one, it is just larger inside to flow better.

The Vortec and Fast Burn heads have a special intake shape and style that is different from conventional heads. Someone had a pic of the difference but I cant find it. You need a specially shaped intake manifold to match up with the ports on the heads. Or you need the heads reworked.

The Vortec TPI base is due to be released by scoggin dickey next month...

this base was designed to work with the votec and fastburn heads...
