Car Runs Like Crap

Took my car out for the 1st time with the new 315HP 355 in it. Holy crap, the original V6 was faster!!! Barely moves, especialy in reverse. Back fires when driving, idles good, but stalls if I rev it. The timing is correct, no doubt about it. Could having no power be because I dont have an exhaust cept for headers (one leaks though) and a y-pipe? No pipping or muffler.

Sounds like you have 2 plug wires swapped.

Lifters too tight, blown head gasket, incorrect assembly.... carb not feeding on one side, rotor / dist cap problem, etc. etc.

Double triple quadruple check everything. If you don't find anything obviously fornicated, do a compression test.

Kind of hard to diagnose much more specifically, my view of it is a bit obstructed.

I ran the engine on a stand before I put it in, to make sure it was ok. I used a different carb then, and the engine seemed to run fine. Lack of power and poor idle could be caused by the carb. What about the backfiring and a washy clunk sound?

Backfiring is often caused by leaning out, which can be the carb. That's why I mentioned one side of the carb not feeding fuel... you'd have half your cyls running EXTREMELY lean. If you've got one you can swap, try substituting it.

Don't know about the sound; that's kind of weird.

Well, I figured out the wierd sound is part of the exhaust leak. Mabey having no acceleration is because of my gears? 4.03,2.37, so on... there extremely low. But wouldnt that only limit my top speed in each gear? Not how fast it gets there?
