87 GTA questions
Hey guys,
This is my first post, so mods if this is in the wrong spot, feel free to move it.
I came across a 1987 GTA for sale near me, it has the 305 and automatic, t-tops, the color is gunmetal grey and is all stock with 90000 original miles. It has one bent rim, the wraparound real spoiler needs to be replaced, and the interior (seats, dash, headliner) needs to be redone. The guy is asking about $2000 for it, I can probably have it for about 1800...
My point is, is this a good deal and should I go for it???
Thanks alot,
Matt

That's totally up to you !! Have you looked at similiar F-body's in your area and what are they going for ??? What do you want to do in the future to the car ??? Here in Mass. I can find a similiar year F-body in better condition for around $2000-2500. I would suggest you shop around a little more, maybe find something with a 350 in it. But in the end....it's really your choice. That's just my 2 cents worth. Good luck in your find !!

fakeyank,
Thanks for the two cents! I have been looking around my area for awhile and this car was at the top of most of the cars for under 3000. I ended up getting it last night, it has 94000, ttops, 305 tpi and an automatic ( which i want to change to a T-5). I've already started wrenching on it, since it needs a few things. Pictures of it can be seen at http://www.picturetrail.com/mkin84 . Thanks again!

You got it already! That was quick, lol. Congratulations on your purchase Matt. It looks pretty good.
The problems you mentioned don't look so bad, so I'd say you got a good deal.
To your other post, no worries about the radio.
Do you have to crank the headlights up manually because they won't pop-up on their own, or did you just crank them up for the pic?
Enjoy your car!

Doesn't look too bad Matt !!
Did you get it less than $2000 ? Junk yards are havens for 3rd gen interiors. Seats are not too hard to find. I found a pristine dash pad for my 87 T/A that cost $10.00 . Look around.... i'm sure you can find some good deals ! I bought mt T/A for $400 bucks ...... That was a steal of the century !! I wish you luck with your ride and hope you have great success in bringing it back to life !!!
Darrell.

Thanks for the great replies, guys.
Fireboyd, when i got the car, one of the headlights was screwed into the up position, and the other was stuck up that way...needless to say today i had to rebuild and jury rig the headlight motors, though i think i'll be ordering the 5 dollar repair kit for TDS. About the radio, I was pretty sure it wasn't equiped with theftlok, since it didn't say so, and I don't have the steering wheel radio controls, so thanks for the reassurance.
Yank, I plan to be spending alot of time walking through the rows of thirdgens in junkyards looking for what I need...if I'm lucky i'll be able to get a few deals as good as you've been getting!
Thanks for making me feel welcome fellas!
