trouble code 42

There is something seriously wrong with my car. It is running like crap and i am getting horrible gas mileage. And it keeps overheating. I checked the trouble codes and 42 is showing up. I dont know what it means so if anyone can help me that would be great.

I think 42 is the electronic spark timing or something like that... Check your timing, see if it's off.

Check the connections to your distributor base, they're actually plugged into the ignition module. There will be two harnesses there. One goes to the ecm and the other to the coil.
