Brand of filters???
Brand of filters???
Getting ready to bring the car out of storage and I'm going to be doing some work before she hits the road. I'm going to change oil/oil filter, trany fluid/filter, fuel filter, and dif fluid. What are the best filters to buy for each. I use mobil 1 filter and oil first off. But this will be my first time changing the rest what brands of filters and fluids are the best? One more thing last year I changed my antifreeze to the red 100,000 mile stuff being that I have to change the thermostat should I change the antifreeze back to the green stuff? Any info would help alot thanks in advance.

The red stuff will work fine, and actually transfer heat better than the green. My opinion on filters is Baldwin, which do make Amsoil filters(I got a hold of a Baldwin exec finally). However, everybody has an opinion of filters and fluids. A better question to ask on this board is which filter and fluid brands to stay away from. For example, Fram filters are really bad.

I second the FRAM oil filter comment....Bad...Bad....Stay away.
take one apart sometime and look at it. It might frighten you a bit.
I use the A/C PF35 filter. Good construction and many pleats. The Mobil 1 filters are far superior being that they use a "synthetic" filtering media and have multi-layer micron filtering capabilities (filters the bigger chunks first, and then the inner portion filters smaller particles, and so on and so on). They're $9 around me, so I stick with the PF35 for now since I change my oil frequently. Can never change your oil too often.
There are going to be soo many different opinions, so i'm ready for challenges.

I use Mobil 1 filters all the time. I would run it for oil, I use AC for fuel filter, and anyone's for the trans filter. For the antifreeze, if you mean Dexcool, it is better than the older green stuff; leave the red stuff in.

Well...Tear one apart sometime and check it out. The construction is quite poor. The internal end cap is made of flimsey filter media, and GLUED in place. the surface area seems to be quite alot smaller than an A/C equivalent.
Supposedly, there have been lawsuits against Allied Signal (makers of FRAM) because of catastrophic engine failure due to filter failure. I heard that Allied Signal scoffs at such lawsuits because in a court of law it's very difficult to determine an engine has failed due to filter failure. Hell, they can just claim that when the engine blew, that the failed component pieces traveled to the filter and THEN destroyed the filter, not the other way around. FRAM is the most popular filter on the market, it's inexpensive which sells it, and it's heavily advertised....They don't sweat lawsuits when they make millions a year. Stick with an A/C oil filter for close to the same price, and have piece of mind.

I can say that mobil 1 is the only filter I use, but what are your thoughts on the purolator ones, I just changed the oil and filter on my friends 82z and used a purolator one... OHHH before the purolator one we had a fram/allied signal one, I dont know WHAT THE HELL happened but the thing just like fell apart when I initially started the car up, 5 FREEKIN QUARTS OF OIL ALL OVER THE STREET!!!!!!!!!! sooo after a trip to the auto parts store, some kittie litter stuff, a new filter and 5 more quarts everything is fine... got the money back too =] MORAL: NEVER GET FRAM PRODUCTS FOR YOU CAR!!

I used to use Fram, never had a problem... then I found that one website- you guys know the one, right? Oh, man, I hate slow web servers... this was the last link I had for it, but I don't know if it works: http://members.nbci.com/minimopar/oilfilterstudy.html
Anyway, since then, I use Purolator or AC. Those came out the best in that study. Too bad, I liked that nuclear orange color of the Frams!

I have used K/N oil filters and air filter and have never had a problem with any of thier stuff. I use then in conjuction with Mobil 1 oils but have never tried Mobil 1 filters. I might though because they more available without having to mail order all the time. Just my two cents worth.
i sell purolator filters and they come w/ a little display showing cutaways of 3 filters...the "other" brand (fram) which looks like a folded up paere towel in a pepsi can, the regular purolator filters which are far better looking than the fram, and the purolator pure one (it's blue and the part number starts wiht "PL") and they have a lot of filter paper inside them, they look pretty well built. i would use the pure one, but I go with the AC Delco because they are equal quality if not better...the purolator trans filter seem to be well built also

I agree with you Jobryan....Definately good for a tech article, or at least in the "vendor Review" board or "Aftermarket Product Review" board. Anyone wanna carry the ball??
My two choices for what I would buy:
1)A/C PF35......Best bang for the buck.
2)Mobil 1.....A little pricey, but probably best filtering capabilities.

Re: Brand of filters???
I like the Wix (or Carquest brand) filters as an easy replacement. There are specialty, better filters out there - but may be hard to find in a retail store.
On thing I will advise is to get a longer (higher capacity) filter as it not only increases oil capacity, but also has more filter area. Typically a few quarters more than a nomral SBC one.
