were to put watertemp??

i need some info, as of now i have my watertemp sensor on the side of my block. my stock gauges are messed so i have an aftermarket temp gauge hook up to this sensor and man the temp goes up fast acording to the gauge and goes really hot to, over 200F. so i did some checken and is it true that it is always hot there and to get a right reading i need to have the sensor on the thermo houseing?? whats the info??

200 is not hot at all. Especially not when you consider that the factory thermostat is 195°, at a cooler place..... if you started the engine up cold, the head would reach 200° before coolant even began circulating, let alone the fan came on, indicating taht the engine had reached a temp at which it needed cooling.

Sounds to me like your sensor is in the right place, and probably is reasonably accurate, and there's nothing you've said so far that shows a problem with anything.
