Is this surprising?
I just took the valve covers off of my L98 engine that I am going to get freshed up when I get the money. When my dad took a look at it he was surprised that he could still see the bare metal (silver part circled in pic) What does this tell you? This engine has been sitting for about 3 years also.

My dad was also surprised to find out how clean it was inside. We are thinking all this engine needs to run good are new piston rings, hone the block and heads, replace valve seals and seats, and a new cam. Anything I am missing? And how much do you think it should cost?

How many miles does it have on it. I would chanced the fluids, prime the oil pump and fire it up. It looks clean to me. You do not need to change the cam or any part for that matter if it is not ruined. You could follow the engine break in procedure if the motor ran perfectly before it sat.

Thats the thing, I dont know the history behind this motor. And I buidling this for a reliable street engine, So you dont think any thing has to be replaced? Not even rings after sitting that long?

Since its been sitting so long, youll also want to throw a couple of tablespoons of oil into each cylinder and turn it over by hand to lube the cylinders up after youve primed it. Maybe even throw some clean oil over the rockers.
