Gentelmen, your recommendations please.

I have a problem here, my 305 is just too slow. Just talking to a couple guys outside school here, one has a '00 TA, other a Turbo Supra which has been highly modded out.

My car may be the pretiest of the three, but she is the slowest. And it is Pissing me off. I have had ideas running through my mind now for sometime what to do about this. Is it worth modding out the 305? Or should I opt for the cubes, 350, 383, 400?
Money is of some importance since I go to college full time. I will pick up some cash this summer to put into her.

I know there are many out there who have made mistakes just as I have about what to do, and many who have done the right thing. And I'd rather not find out down the line I made an oops. I know I am just frustrated by the events ehich occured 10 min ago, but dammit, I want to show them that out thirdgens can kick their a$$.

BTW, I picked up a TPI unit of an '87 IROC, any recommendations on what to do to it to improve it before It goes on the 305? also wheres the best place to get a wiring harness for it?

All help is greatly appreciated, hopefully it will help others with the same question, I know I'm not the only one.

Well, you COULD mod out the 305 and make it fast..

or...

You could buy a 350, mod that, and make it that much faster!

Their ain't no replacement for displacement!
383's are good high torque motors, I have heard mixed reviews of 400's (parts availability) but they are supposed to be a great base to start from!

If you're frustrated with your 305 right now, when you modify it you'll only be less frustrated...but frustrated all the same. Car Craft got 325 horsepower out of an LG4 305 and you could probably get similar results with your L03 305. If, however, you built a 350, at about 1.07 horsepower per cubic inch you'd have 372 horsepower out of the same build up (maybe even more). A 383 would make 408 horses and a 406 should make 433 by the same equation. This is a bit oversimplified, but it makes the point. 325 horsepower out of a 305 is impressive, but wouldn't you rather be pushin out around 400? With the better heads that are available for the large bore blocks you could even increase power beyond the 1.07 per cid used in the above example.

well, it's all in how much you can spend and where you'd like to start. i'd recomend a decent starting point of getting rid of the stock cam. i see you have some competition and i don't think your going to get them with what you have, but maybe close. a production LT4 cam with 1.6 ratio rockers would be a nice start on a set of L30 heads. L30 is the 305 vortec engine. the intake from gm 12496821 is made for throttle body injection on vortec style heads and it show's even how to keep your egr valve working if needed. put on some headers like edelbrock or something. replace the factory cat with a high flow one from random technologies if you can. i'm guessing you have an auto so i'd say a good shift kit will help. put in a posi if you don't already have one with a 3.23 or 3.42 gear. deffinitly going to need a reprogrammed prom and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would be nice. changing pullies wouldn't hurt either since you have some rough competition with not alot to work with. anything and everything will help. just some thoughts.

Thank you all for your thoughts.

You are right I would like to be pusing out about 400hp.
I know I'll need a new rear end before I take that much power to the road. Any other cars have the same rear end to swap out with, rather than paying 2 grand for a new one?
