it sounds as if someone is sharpening a knife on a bench grinder in my engine. at first i thought it was belts squeling, but i sprayed them down and its still happening. happens in all gears at all times, gets faster as engine revs. anyone have any help as to what this is, and whether or not i need a new engine.

Take the belt(s) off, and see if it still does it.

maybe something needs fluid?

 

When My alt. went bad and the front bering collapsed it made that sound but it actually still worked for a while ((I was out in the middle of no-where))and I made it all the way home.

just a thought...make shure that everything is ok and the blades on the alt fan aren't rubbing on the housing...

i did. the fans not even running, the belts arent making any noise. its a LG4 & when i crawled under it sounded like the noise was coming from the bottom of the endine towards the front. now if its what were thinking it is, is it fixable or do i need a rebuild, and how long do i have before it totally stops? thanks!!!
p.s. it doesnt seem to have lost much if any power.

 

turns out the harmonic balancer was like coming apart or something. thank guys
