New potential Engine
Well I found me a 350 in the local paper. Guy wants to sell it bundled with a transmission for $400. I am gonna see if I can score the engine by itself. The ad in the paper states
350 Chevy SBC
4BBL Holley Carb
Ported Heads
Ported intake
Hot Cam
Engine has 78,000Km's (70,000 less then mine).
My plans are to addapt this bad boy to my TBI system, do some chip tuning and see where I stand. Do you think I will have to get a bigger fuel pump/injectors for this setup or should it get along with a Stock TBI from a l03?

Yick, get rid of TBI!!!
Leave the carb on there or at least go with a TPI setup, although I strongly recommend the carb. Almost anything is better than TBI.. it's a freakin' truck fuel injection system

Well I wasn't really asking what fuel system I should go with...I was asking if my 305's TBI would get along with the 350 without modding it.

Because I like the challenge of chip burning.
If I switch to a TPI setup that means I need to get the wiring harness from a TPI car, ECM, and all the junk that goes with it. Why not use what I have and make it work nice. TBI is not as bad as it seems. Lots of guys on the TBI boards are having great success with their setup.
I am not fond of carb as I know little to nothing about it other then it has 4 barrels as opposed to my TBI's 2. Other then that..what benefits are there to running a carb over TBI?

You will need bigger injectors and a better feul pump. it would be pointless to convert to a stock type TPI since TBI will make more high end power for less. Now if you go miniram, stealth ram, LT1 etc the story changes. If you want to stay with TBI and it does indeed have the hot cam and some what decetn heads you will need a 2" TBI unit. Tuning will be your biggest obsticle. I would read the "taking your TBI to the next level" sticky started in the TBI board. There is a great discussion of what it takes to make big power with a TBI set-up.

Thank you Shifty. That is my plan. I am going to be rebuilding this 350 to have some definate power. Next time that manual Cavalier rolls up I want to leave that backwards hat wearing punk in my dust instead of riding my front fender.

Both tbi and tpi suck in their stock forms. With some mods and some tuning the tbi would do fine.
Did teh guy say what casting number the heads where? I take it by hot cam he means the LT4 hot cam? Better make sure... The LT4 hot cam would be ok to use with tbi, itll be a huge jump up from your present setup, though. Make sure to get a larger tbi with large pph injectors and a good fuel pump. Also a good idea to look into setting up a VAFPR and last but not least, look into getting prom burning equipment. The basic stuff without all the bells and wistles can be had for less then a hundred dollars.

Well I just checked the local junkyard and they have some TBI's from 454's so they should be built a bit bigger right. Engine being 150 more cubic centimeters...must have more output. Would that work? They are asking $75 for the TBI unit. Thinking I could get that, and perform those Ultimate TBI mods to it.

149 more cubic inches.
Pay the $400 for the engine/tranny, sell the tranny for $300.

Probably would have been less need for a flame retardant suit if you had asked this question over on the TBI forum.

No need to apologize, wasn't trying to badger you.
Just trying to help (Shifty runs a pretty tight ship over there, eh?).
