Code 45 most likely means your O2 sensor is bad. It either got contaminated with silicon, carbon, etc. or it was just old and failed. Go to the GM dealer and pick up and 02 sensor and then go to a generic parts store and get an O2 sensor socket. The sensor is located on the passenger side (??? may be drivers side, haven't looked in a while) exhaust manifold directly behind the engine block. It will take some muscle to break it loose. Plug up the new one, screw it back in and go on your way. If you still get the 45 then you have a problem with the wiring or the ECM. If you still get the code post here and we'll send you down the right road.

Of course the 45 could also mean that the O2 sensor is functioning properly and is seeing a rich condition in the fuel air mixture. This could lead to a whole host of other problems. The sensor will eventually fail if the mixture is indeed too rich. Good luck.

Re: code 45!?!
Well ya know, maybe he did... he's had over 16 years since he wrote that to work on it, here's hoping he got it handled.
